Additional Funding Sources
Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR)
BVR provides grant programs for undergraduate students with disabilities. The Rehabilitation Services Commission in the student’s state of residence determines a student’s eligibility. Students with disabilities who are interested in applying should visit https://www.ood.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/ood/ for more information.
OhioMeansJobs/WIA (Workforce Investment Act)
In 1998, Congress passed the Workforce Investment Act or WIA. Intended to meet the needs of employers, job seekers, and current workers who want to advance their careers, WIA can help those who qualify with multiple services. WIA works with dislocated workers (individuals who have lost their job through no fault of their own), adults over the age of 18 and if applicable, registered for Selective Service, and low-income youth who meet specific qualifications.
Students interested in WIA should visit jfs.ohio.gov/owd/wia/index.stm to learn more about services, locations, and contact information.
The Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP)
The NEALP program provides financial assistance to Ohio students enrolled for at least half-time study (or accepted for enrollment) in an approved Ohio nurse education program, for students who intend to serve as nurses after graduation. This funding type is a loan, but recipients of the loan who are employed full-time as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in the State of Ohio for a minimum of five years after graduation will qualify for loan cancellation.
Eligibility is based on your SAI (Student Aid Index) from your FAFSA, which must be filled out prior to application for NEALP. Interested students can find more information, application instructions and application deadlines online at https://highered.ohio.gov/educators/financial-aid/sgs/nealp/nealp
